Hello girls, hope you’re having a wonderful week.

The special night that you have been waiting for is pretty close, such an exciting dance: homecoming! Where you just want to feel and look the best you can.
When it comes to shopping for homecoming, many girls find the experience stressful and fraught with self-image issues and heartache. A dress may not fit the way they had hoped, or be way out of their budget, and could already be hanging in her best friend’s wardrobe. On top of that, all of these conflicts could end up turning mother and daughter against one another. OMG! so many issues to deal with!

As a personal stylist I’ve helped many girls look and feel like a princess, in one of the most important nights for their young life. So I want to share some of my recommendations that will help you prepare and have an enjoyable homecoming shopping experience. Here I go:

Set Your Budget in Advance

If you’ve already been looking at different styles of designer homecoming dresses, you’ll have a good idea of how much you’re going to need to spend. So, start planning ahead and ask yourself these questions to determine your budget:

-Who will be paying for the dress?
-Will you have a dress custom-made or buy one off the rack?
-If you’re paying for yourself, how soon should you start saving? (It’s never too early!)
-If you’re going the custom route, you may need a deposit.

Consider Your Body Type

Too many girls try to squeeze into dresses that don’t fit them properly. Here’s the thing: a dress that matches your body type will look so much better than one that doesn’t. Knowing your body shape before you head off on a shopping trip can help significantly  to reduce your stress levels.

Weight is distributed over the body in mysterious ways, and when you lose weight, you can’t predict how it’s going to be distributed in the end. So, if you’re planning to start a diet before shopping for your homecoming dress, you need to consider that you may lose weight in some areas and not in others that you had hoped to. Or you might loose curves in the places you wish you didn’t.

Instead of trying to crash on a diet to fit your dream perfect dress, concentrate on being proud and healthy. Pick a homecoming dress that suits your body type. A well-fitted dress will look so much better on you than an uncomfortable mess.

We all have a unique body part, but there are a couple of categories most people fall into, these include:

  • Busty
  • Petite
  • Apple
  • Pear
  • Slender
  • Hourglass

By knowing where you fall within these categories, you can make your shopping, experience easier, the whole idea is to save time and reduce stress.

Stick with classic designs that you are familiar with, and that you will feel comfortable in. Don’t have expectations about body shape and self-image. Instead, love who you are and dress accordingly.

Finally, don’t put too much pressure on your mom if you’re taking her shopping with you. Us, adults can be complicated, and if we aren’t able to pay for your dress, you’ll appreciate it a lot more if you work for it yourself.

So girls, follow these easy steps and you will make a splash on this important night and remember that the whole purpose of a dress is to make a woman feel pretty!
