For today’s topic, I want to talk about the importance of educating our kids, teens, and young adults to take care of their skin, because if you create that habit at early stages that action will naturally become part of their lives. I am not saying that you have to encourage them to have a strict skincare regimen
My kids see me applying products, wearing masks, slapping my face when applying serum, haha, etcetera, etcetera, all the time. I’ve realized that they are developing a certain kind of interest around it because they ask questions regarding best practices to maintain healthy skin, even my 10-year-old boy. I am sure they will pay attention to their skincare habits in the future to maintain healthy skin and when they grow old they will take appropriate actions to avoid premature aging because that’s the example I had when I was a kid from my mom, so the story
Here are my 5 main ideas to educate your kids about skincare:
1.
Nothing is better than playing or exercising outside on a sunny day but we all know that one of the causes of skin damage is produced by sunlight. When the sun is shining and even if it’s cloudy outside, the skin should be protected without any exceptions, especially if you are enjoying any kind of activity that implies being exposed. The results: a cool tan for the moment but definitely a wrinkled complexion in the future. You will see the damage caused to your skin reflect years later, so prevention is always the key.
2. Wash Their Face At Least Two Times A Day
Kids tend to play outside, practice sports, and so many activities that make them not only sweat but get dirty, so encouraging them to wash their face when they are young is a good habit. 3. Apply Moisturizer After Daily Showers
Pretty self-explanatory but moisturizer is created to give moisture to the skin and avoid dryness. How many times have you seen hands, knees, or elbows on your boys feel or look cracked because they never hydrate that zone? It won’t take more than 5 minutes to rub a little cream onto their bodies after their shower. 4. For Teens: Never, ever pick at those blemishes.
Talk to your kids about the changes that their body is progressively experimenting as they grow and when blemishes and acne becomes present, it’s completely normal. It’s very important to create awareness about the damage, sometimes irreversible, that they can cause to their skin if they pick at those pimples. It’s better to take appropriate action to have the acne under control. Let them know that this stage will pass and the more careful they are, the fewer scars they will have. Look for facial soaps and products to help their skin control excess oil and if it’s not a strong acne condition that needs to be medicated by a dermatologist, you can give them over-the-counter acne products. Remember that communication is the key.
5. Encourage Them To Have A Balanced Diet
I know this isn’t as easy as it sounds, because most times it’s impossible to prohibit sweets and junk food that most of the kids love and that’s normal. Your role as a mom is to let them know the importance of giving their bodies good food. And what I mean by that is that their intake of fruits, veggies, and healthy options needs to be higher compared with the sweets they have. You can establish a rule such as the one I have which is: not at home, but yes outside. This means that they should avoid sweets and unhealthy options when eating at home but when they eat outside, meaning restaurants, birthday parties, friends’ houses, etcetera, they can enjoy what they want. It’s important they understand the benefits that good and healthy options have on their body and skin, especially when they are teens because the acne can be kept under control if they pay attention to their diet. Promote the habit of drinking water instead of soda or energy drinks. Once they create the habit they will continue it until their adult life.
The purpose of this post is to encourage your kids to love their body and their skin because it’s precious and the sooner they start taking care of it, the more it will thank them in the future. Create appropriate routines for their ages and specific conditions.

COMO ENSEÑAR A TUS HIJOS A CUIDAR SU PIEL
Este post lo dedico a todos las adoradas mamas que son todas unas super heroes. Mi reconocimiento y admiración para ustedes que estan enfrentando estos dificiles tiempos. Lo han hecho muy bien y como siempre se que intentan y logran tener todo bajo control.
En esta ocasión quiero hablar sobre la importancia de educar a nuestros niños, adolescentes y adultos jóvenes a que cuiden su piel ya que si creamos un hábito en etapas tempranas se convertira en algo muy natural y parte de su vida diaria. No me refiero a que les inculquemos el hecho de tener un estricto regimen de cuidado de la piel como posiblemente sea el nuestro, simplemente que les enseñemos a crear buenos habitos que se irán modificando conforme vayan creciendo.
Por lo general mis hijos me ven aplicándome productos, usando mascarillas, dando unos golpesitos a mi rostro cuando aplico el suero facial, jaja. Y me he dado cuenta que han desarrollado cierto interés en torno a mis habitos, inclusive mi hijo menor de 10 años, ya que me hacen preguntas y sobre todo les gusta saber como mantener su piel saludable. El ver Esto es also que me gusta y disfruto y creo que les estoy dando un buen ejemplo para cuando crezcan, asi como lo hacía mi mamá, asi que la historia se repite.
Les quiero compartir 5 puntos que considero deben enseñar a sus hijos desde chicos.
1.Promuevan el uso de bloqueador siempre que realizen actividades al aire libre:
Nada mejor que ejercitarse o jugar al aire libre en un dia soleado, pero es bien sabido que una de las mayores causas de daño en la piel es producida por los rayos del sol. Cuando el sol brilla o aun estando nublado la piel debe estar protegida, especialmente si estas realizando actividades en las que estas expuesto. Asi que es importante proteger tu piel y la de tu familia, usando protector solar diariamente al menos en el rostro. Recuerda que el daño solar es acumulativo y progresivo.
Sobretodo si tienes adolescentes quienes quieren lograr ese bronceado tan cool y se pasan un buen rato tirados esperando conseguirlo e inclusive utilizan productos para acelerar el bronceado. El resultado: un espectacular tono en la piel por el momento pero el abuso los llevará con el paso del tiempo a tener una piel arrugada o peor aun el desarrollo de condiciones criticas en su piel. Asi que el balance y prevención son clave.
2. Lavar la cara por lo menos dos veces al dia:
Como niño se disfruta jugar fuera de la casa, practicar deporte y actividades que no solo los hacen sudar y ensuciarse por lo que es importante hacer hincapié en que deben obtener el habito de lavar su cara. Deben hacerlo al despertar, si son pequeños, explicales que cuando duermen su piel respira y es cuando se regeneran sus celulas, es decir que la piel pasa por un proceso de exfoliacion natural. Probablemente no encuentres facil de explicar esto a un niño, pero busca la manera en que entiendan un poco la idea. Quizas los chiquitines entenderán que lavando la cara al despertar se sentirán frescos, sin lagañas y mas despiertos, listos para comenzar el dia.
3. Aplicar crema hidratante después del baño:
Como su nombre lo dice la crema hidratante ha sido creada para dar hidratacion a la piel y evitar la resequedad. Es muy común ver en los niños manos, rodillas o codos agrietados por la resequedad ya que rara vez hidratan la piel. En realidad no les tomará mas de 5 minutos frotar un poco de cream despues del baño. Muchos niños odian esa sensacion cremosa que les deja el producto, si este es el caso prueba con gel de aloe vera, el cual es muy ligero y deja la piel muy fresca y suave. El gel de Aloe vera es una maravilla si se aplica despues de asolearse, asi que si vas de vacaciones a la playa siempre llevalo contigo.
4. Para los adolescentes: NUNCA por ningún motivo pellizcar los granitos.
Debes hablar en su momento con tus hijos sobre los cambios que su cuerpo experimenta conforme van creciendo, esos comunes cambios hormonales que ocasionan la presencia de acné. Hacerles ver que es totalmente normal pero sumamente importante, que cuiden su piel en esta etapa evitando a toda costa pellizcarse los granos porque pueden generar daños irreversibles. Lo mejor será tomar accion adecuada y pertinente para controlar el acne y de esta manera evitar la aparición de cicatrices. Deben buscar limpiadores y productos especificos para controlar el exceso de grasa, y en caso de ser necesario acudan al dermatólogo para que les recomiende los mejores productos para sus necesidades especificas. Recuerda que una buena comunicación con tu adolescente siempre es la clave.
5. Promueve una dieta balanceada en casa
Se dice facil pero entiendo que no siempre se tiene exito cuando queremos hacer que nuestros hijos eviten el consumo excesivo de dulce y comida chatarra. Tu rol como mama sera inculcarles una buena alimentación y lo que me refiero con esto es que tengan claro que el consumo de frutas , verduras y opciones saludables debe ser mayor al consumo de azucares y chatarra. Establecer reglas siempre ayuda, en lo personal yo manejo el “en la casa no, en la calle si” y me han funcionado ya que en casa tratamos de evitar el exceso de dulce y cosas poco saludables pero cuando comemos fuera, está permitido que se den sus gustos, ya sea que esten en una fiesta, casa ajena, restaurante, etcetera. Te sugiero promoverles tomar agua y evitar simepr el refresco o bebidas energeticas. Veras que si crean un habito, este se mantendrá en practica por el resto de su vida adulta.
El propósito con este post es dar algunas ideas simples y efectivas para alentar a nuestros hijos a cuidar su piel desde que son chicos, a enseñarlos a amar y respetar su cuerpo porque es algo may valioso. Entre mas temprano cuiden su piel, mejor sera la calidad de esta en la vida adulta. Es bueno crearles rutinas para el cuidado de la piel de acuerdo a su edad y necesidades especificas.
